Description
On Inishmore (according to Census 2006: 824 inhabitants), the large island to the main town Kilronan, the ferry port and a Heritage Center, 30 significant historic and prehistoric sites alone are registered.
The most famous is the fortress Dun Aenghus, which is located on a 100-meter cliff with fantastic views over the sea. The stone fort dating from the 2nd Century BC, is obtained as a semi-circular Ringverteidungsanlage and gives rise to much speculation: Was the Iron Age fort protected the sea, broke or even a whole half of the fort along with the cliff away? We do not know.
